Driving forces behind the World Championship Motocross in Lommel are 5-time World Champion Eric Geboers, Grand Prix-victor Johan Boonen and Jo De Munck. The team that was behind the legendary race on the ‘Citadel of Namur’ was formed into a new structure in 2009, to host a new event at the Motocross hot spot that is Lommel. The core of the organisation is based around 30 passionate volunteers, a number that grows towards 400 towards the event, derived from local sports and cultural clubs.
GP Limburg vzw is the non-profit organisation that unifies this, and finds it’s purpose in promoting the Belgian motorsport, whilst fortifying the economical and touristic impact on the region. In the first place the organisation wants to bring events of top quality, in collaboration with important institutional partners like Sport Vlaanderen, Provincie Limburg and hosting city Lommel.
