Back in 2008, 5-times world champion Eric Geboers took the initiative to bring the infamous GP of Namur to Lommel. With the crew of Namur as a base, a new group was formed with amongst other, Jo De Munck (GP’s and MXoN at Circuit Zolder) and Johan Boonen (Former GP winner), with the latter currently fronting the crew. The core of the organisation is based around 30 passionate volunteers, a number that grows towards 400 towards the event, derived from local sports and cultural clubs.
GP Limburg vzw is the non-profit organisation that unifies this, and finds it’s purpose in promoting the Belgian motorsport, whilst fortifying the economical and touristic impact on the region. In the first place the organisation wants to bring events of top quality, in collaboration with important institutional partners like Sport Vlaanderen, Provincie Limburg and hosting city Lommel.
